Six Months Ago

…. I started this blog and still blogging right now. It feels like it’s been awhile but six months have passed already, could you imagine that?! I can’t, really can’t. I love reading blogs but it didn’t sink into my mind that I will enter the world of blogging… not until Cyrus Schuyler (a.k.a Cyler) was born. The blogging world entered our quiet life.

I am happy because through blogging I met my fellow mom bloggers and other bloggers, through this site I was able to share all my thoughts with my readers (ay meron ba?), some are useful and maybe some are not. But thank you for constantly reading and visiting my blog. There are times when I feel like nobody reads my posts at all, but my statistics says I have readers (kahit papano) and that I continue inspiring people. I’ve got 72 followers and thousands of views every month which truly brings joy into my heart. One of my Team Lead’s kept on telling me that she always read my blog, thank you so much for reading my blog! You don’t know how happy I am every time you tell me that you read my blog. Actually, the best part of blogging is when you inspire and help other people thru your blog. Agree my fellow bloggers? 🙂

12,400++ views within six months is no joke at all, and I was surprise because people are searching for the name “kikay mommy sha” on google already. Most people called me “kikay mommy sha” because of my blog. And also, within the span of six months my blog was featured at the prestige MomCenter site, now how good is that?! Really good! My heart was literally filled with so much joy. But I know I just am starting. Thank you guys for bearing with me, sorry for all my non-sense jokes, I am just trying to be me and trying to make you smile though. I noticed most of my readers are lurker, don’t be shy it’s okay to leave some kind words in my comment box, I would love to hear from you and I will really appreciate it. But if you’re too shy to do it, you can email me at (been using my old email until now, o diba pati pagpapalit ng email kinatatamaran ko pa.), I am willing to answer all your queries thru email or even in sms.

Familia Kiki, Mommy Maggie’s Musing, Je’s Anatomy, Promding Chamimay, Topaz Mommy, Akira and Everything nice, Planet Marsy, and many more are one of my many parenting and blogging inspirations. Guys, thank you for inspiring not only me but all your readers. Again, thank you so much for making my blogging world more fun and exciting. I feel grateful and will be forever grateful because I have a wonderful readers who continually read my posts, and I met all the wonderful person in the world, my cyber friends, hope I can meet y’all soon!

Much Love,

My Weekend Booksale Loots

Haller, haller! It’s me again! My mind is wooshing now, and I need to share all my thoughts inside my head to prevent it from nerve-damaging (a.k.a Pagka-baliw). So, please please bear with me, guys. 🙂

It’s been a long time since I bought books for Cyler. I’m not a bookworm but my son is indeed a book sucker. You can check my post about Booksale here and here. Yesterday, we went to SM San Lazaro because of their 3-days sale. My gulay! Sale madness always sent chills to my spine! Can you feel a frugalicious momma talking here?! Anyhoo, we went to Booksale before we go shopping. The store was jam-pack already when we arrived, but I was really determined to buy books for Cyler so tiis-ganda ang lola ninyo. Happy to say that I was able to purchase six books, five for Cyler and one for mommy. I purchased three Christmas books for Php175 only, two Dr.Seuss books for Php160, and a cook book for Php90 petot only. Could you imagine how happy I am with my purchases? Super duper uber mega happy to the highest level! 🙂

Christmas by Charlie Brown (Php95), Christmas is Coming by Robin Carey (Php45), The Snow Must Go On by Hallmark (Php35)

It’s my early Christmas gift for my cutie patootie. He fell inlove with the book “Christmas is Coming” because it’s a touch and feel type of book. It really catches my toddler’s imaginative mind. And I think it’s a great way to introduce Christmas to Cyler through this book.

I saw “Goodnight Moon” on the shelves but it wasn’t in useable condition anymore, so I didn’t buy it. I also saw “Fancy Nancy”, pero naman! Di naman pwede yun kay Cyler! Kay Mommy, pwede pa. LOL

KMS Cooks: Fresh Garden Salad Ala Kikay Mommy Sha

Hi friends! My gulay! Its been awhile since I created a post. I have been in an involuntary hiatus these past few days, and I guess every writer/blogger are experiencing the same thing, just like what Ate Maggie said in one of her post. Maybe it’s because of my hectic sched or maybe the gloomy weather affects my mood, I don’t know. Whatever the reason is.. today I’ll try to make a post to help me get started.

Alright, so moving on amiga’s and amigo’s, today I made some fresh garden salad to healthify our lunch. Actually, I wanted to cook gising-gising but then my little shaolin, Cyler woke up at around 12pm-ish  and I couldn’t go downstairs to prepare my ingredients. So, instead of cooking gising-gising, I just made some home-made fresh salad.  I have a confession to make but please don’t tell anyone about it, ok?! (Baliw-baliwan lang ang peg ko today) So here’s my confession I copied Italianni’s Silican Salad here, but I used different dressing in my salad and I didn’t add any mayo chicken and croutons at all because I forgot to buy these ingredients yesterday when we we’re in grocery. Andun na eh, nakalimutan pa! Sorry, it’s my mom-nesia, sisihin ninyo po yun. 🙂

Of course, this green salad is so easy to prepare, you just need a little cutting session and you’re done. And here’s what you need, baby.

My After Work Stress Reliever

These past few days, I haven’t been the most patient mother there is. I was insanely busy at work , I’ve got so many project deadlines that’s (really) driving me crazy, I leave the house at 8Am and I go back home around 10pm (or worst 12am). Could you imagine that?! It was one heck of a day! I feel like I don’t have life anymore, and it made me feel like I don’t have enough time for my family. Being too busy makes me feel guilty. I admit I’ve been short-tempered lately, sometimes I ended up sleeping instead of playing with my son, no matter how I try to play my role as a mother. I feel like I am detached with my son.  The mental stretching, sleep deprivation, and stress turning me into a “momster” mom. I’m trying to jug my time with my son, my husband, relationship, work, home, myself, and more, I’ve got so much to do in so little time! Having too much responsibility deprive me from enjoying my role as a mother. Even the gentlest, most caring mother in the world can be a “time-bomb” waiting to explode when things become too much to handle.

Two nights ago, when I got home from work I was happy because Cyler was still up. And so, I tried my best to play with him and to stay up late. While we we’re playing I noticed that Cyler kept on holding my hand, we we’re literally holding hands. Too bad I wasn’t able to take photos because the camera was dead batt already. I tried to get of my hands away from him but he kept on holding it. I was really surprised and so kilig (to the bones) at the same time because my little boy, Cyler hold my hand for the very first time. It seemed like he was telling me this — “Mommy, I don’t want you to leave, please stay with me”.  That moment was indeed breath-taking, and I don’t want that moment to passed by. If I could stop or pause that time for a moment, I will. I’ll cherish those moments forever in my heart.  Truly, my son is my after work stress reliever. He always took all my worries away and he never fails to put smile on my face.

My son made me feel that I’m the best mom in the whole universe, though I’m not with him 24/7.  Thank you sweetheart for teaching me all these things. With so much going on in our lives (and I know all moms can relate to this) – sometimes I have forgotten to enjoy the many blessings I have, one of them being that I have a kind-hearted child like him. Everybody go through a lot in our daily lives, but I do believe that we always have a choice, nonetheless to either let those build us or break us. My son reminds me how lucky and blessed I am for having him in my life. And I owe it to God. From that moment I learned how to value my family more. I do know that a moms life can be extremely stressful but as long as I have my family I’ll be forever grateful.

How about you? What or who is your greatest stress reliever? Share your thoughts with me, I’d love to hear from you! 🙂

Kikay Finds: Benefit Flawless Complexion Makeup Kit

Its 12:09AM already and I was about to start this post, my boys are still up and playing in our room so while they we’re busy I quietly sneaked in front of the computer and saw this post at my drafts. So, I decided to continue this so I can share it with y’all. So please forgive my grammar (as always) because my mind is off to LaLa Land now…. Teehee! Moving on, I’ve mentioned on my previous post how I fancy Benefit Cosmetics because its really good to my skin, very lightweight, and so easy to use. I also purchased their complexion makeup kit together with the lip and cheek kit that I mentioned from my previous post.

I’ve been using this makeup for almost two weeks now and so far so good, actually when it comes to cosmetics I only use TheFaceShop. It was my first time to try different brand of makeup but I like it, and I really really like it. I could not ask for more because I’ve got everything I need in this kit. Benefit’s custom skin perfectors come together in this convenient kit to give you an even, luminous complexion. It blends away imperfections and minimize the appearance of pores with the must-haves in this collection. The complexion makeup kit is available in light, medium ,and deep skin complexion. I recommend medium complexion kit for those girls who is also morena (tan), like me.

Oh, I really love how they named their products and I’m a sucker for them! They’ve got a good marketing strategy and they’re notorious because they’ve got the coolest and cutest packaging designs that are indeed catchy to the eyes, and oh they really got me! To my surprised, this frugalicious momma immediately purchased two kits in one stop, without thinking twice. For only Php1500 you can try all their best products. Their “star” product POREfessional is also included in this kit, this is one of the best base makeup that I have ever tried (I swear!)!

Cyler Got Boo Boo

This is Cyler’s first boo boo and it saddens me to see boo boo’s especially if its from my boy. Can you see the small wound on his left upper eyebrow?

He got this when his playing inside our room, he accidentally bumped his head to the corner of the cabinet. Truly, boys are a handful. I know this is his first boo boo and probably not the last, so I need to get myself ready. Hay. Oh well, I guess that is all part of growing up.

Cyler’s Intellectual and Cognitive Development: Toddler Milestones

Watching your kids grow up is sort of bittersweet; but it happens so fast. If feels like he suddenly aged in a millisecond.  And now that time was rapidly approaching for this child. I’m having a flashback to the first time I saw my baby and cuddle him, and it seems like a blink of an eye, one minute I am holding his hand to help him walk, and now his opting to walk on his own. Oh my, can’t imagine how time flies! Can I pause it for a seconds?! Oops! I’m sorry I’m just reminiscing here.

Anyhoo, we visited Doc Vienne a week ago for Cyler’s monthly check-up. A trip to Doc Vienne’s clinic for the monthly check up is like a day in school for me. I learned so much from her, every month she would ask for Cyler’s milestones and she answered all my worries and concerns.  When we got off the elevator, Cyler let go of my hand and ran ahead of me. I didn’t stop him but I kept a close distance from him so I can run after him if he makes a wrong turn or would enter a different doctor’s clinic. He stopped on the first door (the door before Doc Vienne’s clinic) for about 5 seconds and he had this curious look, and I was surprised because he didn’t went inside. He usually go inside the wrong doctor’s clinic every time we go there and this time he turned on the right corner and went inside the right door. I told Docky about these and she is also surprised. She said that Cyler’s intellectual/cognitive skills is developing well.

Cyler with Dra. Vienne Saulog

I also told her that Cyler memorized the entire alphabet already and can count from 1 to 10 now. She was really happy and surprised for Cyler. She said that Cyler has a good memory and a really smart toddler. She told me that Continue reading

Mommy Finds: Meyerf Travel Pack Medicine Kit

I used to bring most of my things whenever I leave the house, most of the time people would ask me what’s on my huge bag. Well, I have my kikay kit, vanity kit, wallet, phone, my TBS Moringa body mist, hand sanitizer, umbrella, credit card holder, tissue, pen, and coin purse. But there’s one thing missing on my bag, can you guess what it is?!.. Oh yes, I don’t have medicine kit! I know it’s essential but I don’t have it! Cj and I get headaches at the most random times, especially when we travel,  but I always forgot to bring some medicines. I realized I’m not a girl scout. Here’s my confession: I don’t have medicine kit on my bag mainly because I’m too lazy to buy it. My fault, I’m sorry.  But here’s the good  news– my heart was filled with gladness when I found Meyerf Travel Pack Medicine Kit from the awesome site Manila Mommy.

Meyerf Travel Pack has all the essential medicines you need to fight against headaches, diarrhea, cough, fever, and colds. I purchased this portable medicine kit at Ministop for (drumroll please!)…. Php99.75 only! Now how good is that?! The container is clearly marked as to the use of each drug, so you’ll know what to take and when to take it. This travel pack has all the essential medicines that you need, it’s very affordable and useful. Super havey, right?! And also you can see the expiry date at the bottom of the container.

Kikay Finds: The Body Shop Moringa Body Mist

It’s so hard to find the perfect happy-medium scent that is not too sweet and not too floral, but I am happy because The Body Shop Moringa Body Mist is just perfect. This spray is fab and the smell lasts all day when sprayed. It also has the right amount of sweetness and floral scent that keep you from feeling like your grandma. This spray is richly floral that gives you a gentle burst of delicate florals. The fragrance is very light and airy, it doesn’t give you the cloying feel that stronger eau de toilettes can give, the smell is so refreshing.

Imagine That! Creative Play Space Center for Toddlers

Imagine That! Creative Play Space Center is a unique play destination for kids of all ages. This play center is located at Unit 201 Three Salcedo Place, Tordesillas St., Makati City, actually their location is just a few blocks away from my office. I discovered this awesome play area at MomCenter site. I found this play center very unique because they have a purpose built village that will gives plenty of opportunity for your kids to involve themselves in imaginative play. Last Saturday, we decided to take Cyler at this creative play center after his monthly check-up with Dra.Vienne. His pedia discussed to us the importance of play dates to our child’s development but I’ll make a different post about that.

Going back to my topic, first thing I noticed to this place was their ample space to enable kids to roam around the area. Oh boy, Cyler got really excited when we entered the place, he immediately ran inside and left me at the entrance while I’m still wearing my socks. Yikes! Oh well, that’s how excited he is. 🙂

Abe Restaurant: Where Good Friends Dine

Just a couple of weeks ago, my friend Mich and I had a double birthday celebration together with our good friends. Actually, it’s was a long overdue birthday celebration, my birthday was last April pa. Anong petsa na diba? Haha! We’ve been planning for this celebration for so long, finally it has been push through. Our initial plan was to dine at Racks, SM North however they didn’t allow reservations on weekends, so I decided to change our venue. My second plan was to dine at Tempura because I was craving for their Ebi Bacon Maki , but hubby reminded me that I already celebrated my birthday at Tempura last year (oops! my momnesia attacked again), so I changed the venue again. Hubby suggested Abe Restaurant instead, he said that the food here is really good. And so it has been decided that we we’re going to dine at Abe (sa wakas!).

We arrived early at the mall, so we decided to window shop while waiting for our friends.

We took Cyler at Toys R Us, we just let him play and touch the toys but we didn’t purchase anything for him. We wanted to teach him the value of “money” and “frugality” , and of course we don’t want to raise a spoiled brat. Also, they we’re able to watched Power Rangers inside the store, and the best thing here is— it was all for FREEE! Our toddler was really happy even if we didn’t purchased anything for him. Truly, money can’t buy you happiness. 🙂

And of course, hindi pwedeng mawala ang “Kikay Outfit of the Day” ni Mommy. So here it goes..

Kikay Finds: Benefit “Go TropiCoral”

Hello! Hello! Gosh! I’m too excited to share this post because it’s all about kikayness (Giddy me!)! Have you heard about Benefit cosmetics? I’m not really familiar with it, not until they opened their branch in Rustan’s Makati. They recently opened their 3rd branch in Rustans Makati and I’m really excited to see it! Oh well, what do you expect to a “Make-up geek Mommy”? After all I’m just a girl who loves kikay stuffs and would die without it. 🙂

And here’s a little trivia about Benefit Cosmetics: (Courtesy of Wikipedia)

Benefit Cosmetics is a manufacturer of cosmetics founded and headquartered in San Francisco, California.

Benefit Cosmetics was founded in 1976 by twins Jean and Jane Ford. Initially founded as a beauty boutique, the shop specialized in quick-fix products for beauty dilemmas.

Benefit make up is unique compared to its competitors and draws in the customer due to its quirky packaging. Different products each have their own individual humorous design which makes the product stand out. The approach which Benefit have gone for is to appeal to the female market hypnotizing its customers into such a “pretty and cute” design; the numerous range of fonts, images and colours break all rules of a consistent house style yet Benefit manage to pull this off incredibly well.

Just so you know. Now, let’s move on to my review. Continue reading

Look Up In The Ceiling!’s a bird?! No! It’s a plane?! No! It’s a lizard?! No!!!!

Mommy, it’s just a light bulb! 😛

I bet he sees the light bulb in so many ways. When these scenarios arise, realize that your child is—at long last!—pretending, or using objects symbolically to represent things in the real world. I therefore conclude that my toddler’s imagination is burgeoning. *Bow*

Who Says Toddler and Veggies Do Not Mix?

…well then, I’ll ask my son, Cyler to teach them how to eat.. Broccoli! 🙂

Toddlers and vegetables aren’t always best buds, especially when you have a fussy eater tot. But I’m still lucky because my son eats veggies though he is a terrible fussy eater. He loves eating broccoli especially when he’s on the mood to eat. But I must admit that I am now in the throes of working through the challenges of feeding my toddler (and my non-veggie eater hubby). Broccoli is an  excellent choice and a pefect snack for toddlers. Broccoli is a member of the cabbage family and is extremely nutrient dense.

Studies have shown that eating broccoli can help prevent cancer and heart disease. These benefits are great for mom and dad(did you read this Hon?!) and will help to create a family with healthy eating habits. Continue reading

KMS Cooks: Spanish-Style Sardines Pasta Ala Kikay Mommy Sha

It’s been a long time since I cook! No weekend cooking for me these past few weeks because I was insanely busy with so many things. Our weekends we’re always fully booked, but good thing last Sunday I got the chance to cook again. My gulay! I miss cooking A LOT! Anyhoo, I got this yummy recipe from my dear friend Anna. We both love experimenting in the kitchen that’s why when I tasted her Spanish Sardines Pasta I told myself that I need to cook it! Last Sunday, we had a mini post-birthday celebration for hubby in our house, we just bought some pizza and roasted chicken, in additional to his mini-celebration I decided to cooked this pasta dish.

I’ve seen few Spanish sardines pasta recipe but most of them are mixed with white sauce or pesto sauce, sometimes they just mix it with olive oil. This one is a bit different because I used red sauce here. Just like my other pasta recipes this one is so easy to cook as well, perfect for all on-the-go people, like me. Alright, so let’s start now.

Healthy Snacks for Toddlers

When Cyler was still a little baby he tends to eat fruits and veggies but when he entered the toddler stage he started to become more picky on what he eats. Our pedia, Dra.Vienne Saulog says that food fads and fussy eater behaviors are common in young children, particularly to toddlers.Toddlers often develop more finicky, or discriminating, tastes as they grow up because this is their way of expressing independence. She says that it’s normal to most toddlers, but really frustrating for many parents. So, finding ways to “healthify” his favorite cookies/snacks is one of my biggest challenge as a parent. I want to ensure that he get the fruits and vegetables he need.

Of course my family’s health is my top priority among others. But there are times when I get tired of trying to play guessing games on what he wants to eat everyday. Just to find out nothing. We completely weaned him from drinking Mosegor-Vita and he’s back to being a fussy-eater now. He has outgrown our TV trick. We also tried to sit together at the table, but it doesn’t work too! Feeding toddlers healthy foods can be a lot like playing an endless game of hide-and-seek — there’s their appetite…and now, it’s gone! Yes, it’s frustrating, really frustrating but that’s how it goes, and this is just one of my dilemmas as a mom.

My son, Cyler would rather eat cookies/snacks than to eat the real food, and so I started looking for some healthy snacks that will support the needs of his body. Doc Vienne also told us that as long as his healthy and he doesn’t get sick then there’s no need to worry. Being picky on what they eat doesn’t necessarily means that they don’t get enough nutrition says Dra.Vienne. But there are times when I can’t help it. That is why I started looking for nutritious snacks for my picky tot.

Here’s some healthy snacks for toddlers:
